Effective from October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024, the maximum allotments for food stamps beneficiaries range from $291 to $1,751, depending on the household’s size. For a one-person household, the maximum monthly allotment is $291, while a family of two could receive up to $535. As the household size increases, so do the benefits, with larger families of seven or more potentially qualifying for $1,751 per month.For every additional member in your household, you can expect an extra $219 in benefits. Plus, rest assured that no household will receive less than $23 in assistance. This user-friendly scale ensures that families of all sizes get the support they need for a more secure and comfortable future.

Are SNAP benefits only for food, or can I use them for other expenses?

SNAP benefits are primarily intended for purchasing food. They can be used to buy a variety of food items such as fruits, vegetables, meat, poultry, fish, dairy products, bread, and cereals. However, they cannot be used to buy non-food items like household supplies, cleaning products, personal care items, or pet food.

There are some exceptions to this rule. Some states have obtained waivers from the federal government that allow SNAP benefits to be used to buy meals at certain restaurants or to purchase seeds and plants to grow food at home.

It’s important to note that SNAP benefits also cannot be used to purchase alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, hot foods or meals that are ready-to-eat, such as those from a deli or restaurant.
